Our Library is an integral part of the school community, located in the Administration Block with easy access for all users. The Library environment is colourful and inviting, creating a busy hub for learning and recreation.
St Bernard’s Library supports the school’s vision for teaching and learning. Students are involved in learning activities based on the Australian Curriculum focussing mainly on the areas of literacy, literature, history and geography. Information Communication and Technology skills are an integral part of the students’ learning.
Our library staff, Miss Theresa Cumming (Teacher-Librarian) and Mrs Virginia Dwyer (School Officer) are experienced and dedicated in providing a high quality library service to our school community. The library is also supported by generous volunteers.
St Bernard’s Library has an extensive collection of books and multimedia resources to support the school’s teaching and learning programs. Students have access to online technology and resources via a bank of computers. Emphasis is placed on providing high quality resources with equitable access for all users.
All students have the opportunity to borrow books for their home reading and learning experiences. Students from Prep to Senior Years borrow during their class visit to the Library. Extra borrowing is available for students from Year 2 to Year 6 at second break when the library is open for students for recreational activities, e.g. reading, chess and computer games. Students are introduced to the Library Inquiry using the Oliver Library Program. Access to Oliver is available on the School Portal.
St Bernard’s Library was established in 1970’s and was located in the original Administration Block facing Logan Rd. Then, for many years the Library was located in the old Church which is now the Outside School Hours Care. The library was moved to its present location in 2005.
