Sustainable Future

Meet our local Koala - Jesse  She hangs out in the park next toJesseKoala (Custom).JPG our school.

At St Bernard’s we believe that together we can work for a sustainable future.  As Stewards of Creation we are committed to take action for the environment, to encourage and increase awareness of environmental responsibilities and implement practices that contribute to a sustainable future.  At our school we strive to:
  • Reduce
  • Reuse
  • Recycle
  • Refuse
As a learning community we embrace opportunities to provide hands on experiences for our children in practical ways to live sustainably and to appreciate the wonder of the natural world while protecting the planet for the future. We aim to think carefully about the type and amount of resources we use, about how we recycle and dispose of materials, as well as the steps we take to manage and conserve the natural environment we all depend on.
Some of the practical ways we respond to this challenge are:
  • Solar power panels and choosing energy saving products
  • Office paper recycling and reduction
  • Composting – to reduce food waste and enrich the soil and the environment.
  • Garden club – to teach children to appreciate and care for nature
  • Butterfly garden to welcome minibeasts to be part of our environment
  • Acting as role models for energy and water conservation practices
  • An active Sustainability Group and School Leader’s Environment Group
  • Education programs for our school community to celebrate specials days such as “Clean Up Australian Schools”, “Earth Day”, “Water Day”.
