Year 5 and 6 Camp

During Term 1, our year 5 and 6 students spent 3 wonderful days at Camp Maranatha in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Camp gives our senior students an opportunity to develop their burgeoning leadership skills in a fun and challenging environment.

By participating in activities such as Mid-Ropes, Raft Building, Possum Pull & Group Initiatives, students challenge themselves to step out of their comfort zone whilst working as a member of a team. Students are given the opportunity to act as a ServantLeader, like Mary MacKillop, in working to achieve a common goal. Our annual Year 5/6 Camp is an important rite of passage for our school leaders.

Blasting Off Into Space!

As a part of their Earth and Space Science Unit, the Year 5s and 6s ventured to the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium. The students experienced a special show in  the 'Sky Dome' led by the Planetarium's resident astronomer. They explored outer space and the different stars and planets in our solar system.

This was followed with a visit to the Botanical Gardens to further the students' biology knowledge from earlier in the year. The students discussed the adaptations that the plants and animals in the Botanical Gardens have that help these living things to survive and thrive.

Later on, the students walked to the National Australia Remembers Freedom Wall where they paid their respects to the Australian soldiers that have served our country. The students were also lucky enough to enjoy a do uble-decker bus ride to and from the venue.

It was a fantastic excursion, and the students had a wonderful day!
